Introduction
A mismatched name, a rejected signature or a missing payment receipt can cost an applicant days. XAT 2027 registration is open until 6 December 2026 for the exam on Sunday, 3 January 2027, so there is time to do it carefully. For operations-minded aspirants, XAT also connects directly to PGDM admissions: Asia-Pacific Institute of Management (AIM), New Delhi, lists XAT among accepted scores and names Operations among the specialisation areas of its PGDM – General programme.
This guide covers dates, fees, eligibility and the application steps. It then explains the XAT pattern 2027, the XAT marking scheme and the Decision Making section from an operations aspirant's viewpoint. Confirm time-sensitive details on xatonline.in before you pay.

What Is XAT 2027 Registration and Who Should Register?
XAT 2027 registration is the online application on xatonline.in that secures your place in the Xavier Aptitude Test, conducted by XLRI Jamshedpur on 3 January 2027. Any graduate who meets the eligibility rules can register. Registering for the exam does not apply you to XLRI or any other college, because those applications are separate.
XLRI's FAQ states that each participating institute runs its own selection process. Operations aspirants therefore need two parallel tracks: registration for the test, and separate applications to every PGDM college on their list, each with its own form, deadline and selection rounds.
XAT 2027 registration opened on 15 July 2026 and closes on 6 December 2026. The standard fee is ₹2,300, with ₹200 extra for each XLRI programme you select. The exam runs from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM on 3 January 2027, and admit cards are expected from 20 December 2026 (tentative).

XAT Eligibility for 2027 Registration
XAT eligibility requires a recognised bachelor's degree of at least three years, or an equivalent qualification, in any discipline. Final-year students can register if they complete their final examinations by 11 June 2027. Indian candidates must take XAT, while NRI, foreign, OCI and PIO candidates may apply through GMAT.
Engineers, commerce graduates and students from science or arts streams are all eligible at the exam level, which suits operations aspirants from technical and non-technical backgrounds alike. On XLRI's form, only full-time work experience gained after graduation counts, not internships.
Colleges add their own rules. AIM, for example, asks for a bachelor's degree with at least 50% marks, allows final-year students to apply, and requires a valid score in one of CAT, XAT, CMAT, MAT, GMAT or ATMA.
How to Apply for XAT 2027: Step-by-Step
To apply for XAT 2027, register at xatonline.in, verify your email, log in, complete the application, upload your photograph and signature, and pay online. Keep the e-receipt, because its absence indicates a failed payment. Your progress saves at each stage, so you can finish across more than one sitting.
Register on the XAT portal and click the verification link sent to your email. Your login details follow.
Log in and fill in personal and academic details. Final-year students enter aggregate marks up to the last completed semester or year, calculated on all subjects.
Add post-graduation work experience, if any.
Select XLRI programmes only if you want to study there.
Choose up to six preferred test cities. Final allotment rests with the authority.
Upload a recent passport-size colour photograph (JPG, JPEG or PNG) and your signature.
Preview the form, submit, and pay by card, net banking, IMPS or wallet.
Spell your name exactly as it appears on your certificates, because changes after submission are allowed only when absolutely necessary. Sign in black ink on white paper, since your exam-day signature must match the uploaded one. File-size limits vary across the guidance text, so follow the limits shown on the upload screen.
XAT Pattern 2027: Exam Sections at a Glance
The XAT pattern 2027 has 95 multiple-choice questions in 180 minutes. Part 1 holds three scored sections: Verbal and Logical Ability, Decision Making, and Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation. Part 2 is a separate General Knowledge section of 20 questions. These XAT exam sections are open to you throughout the test.

For operations aspirants, the quantitative and data interpretation questions are the most obvious fit, since operations work involves reading tables, rates and capacities. Decision Making rewards the same habit of weighing constraints. Think of AIM's PGDM – General, where Operations can sit beside areas such as Finance or Business Analytics, and notice how these skills overlap.
The XAT marking scheme gives +1 for each correct answer in Part 1 and deducts 0.25 for each wrong answer. The General Knowledge part has no negative marking and is not counted in the percentile. XLRI confirms there are no sectional time limits and that a scientific calculator appears on screen.
Wrong answers: each costs 0.25, so guess only when you can eliminate options.
Blank answers: published summaries mention a small penalty of 0.10 when more than eight Part 1 questions are left unattempted, so do not abandon whole blocks.
Section order: with no sectional limits, you choose how to split your time. Rehearse that choice in mocks.
GK: timed separately, so attempt every question.
XAT Decision Making: What It Tests and How to Practise
XAT Decision Making is a 21-question section of case-based situations in which you choose the best action among competing options. It tests judgement about stakeholders, ethics and trade-offs rather than formulas. It counts towards the percentile, so each question is worth as much as one in quant or verbal.
Why It Suits Operations Aspirants
Operations decisions rarely have a perfect answer. A manager may balance cost against speed, or quality against delivery targets, while keeping suppliers and staff on board. Decision Making questions reward the same structured thinking, which is why this section can feel natural to candidates with process-oriented minds.
How to Practise
List the people affected by the situation and what each one needs.
State the main constraint, whether time, cost, ethics or policy.
Compare the options against that constraint, not against your instinct.
Choose the option you can defend consistently across similar cases.
Review every mock case by asking why the best option beat the second-best one. That gap teaches more than the score.
Registration Checklist for Operations Aspirants
Operations aspirants should finish XAT registration first, then shortlist PGDM colleges that accept XAT and offer operations-related specialisations. Check each college's eligibility, selection rounds and specialisation structure on its official page. Keep marksheets, ID, photograph and signature files ready, since colleges ask for similar documents.
At AIM, applicants hold a bachelor's degree with at least 50% marks and a valid score in one accepted exam, including XAT. Shortlisted candidates then take part in a group discussion and personal interview. Programme structure can change by session, so confirm Operations options on the PGDM – General page before applying.
XAT 2027 registration is a short process that rewards care: confirm eligibility, keep documents ready, submit before 6 December 2026, and save your payment receipt. The exam itself rewards balance across three scored sections, with a separate GK part. Operations aspirants can use their comfort with numbers and trade-offs in quant, data interpretation and Decision Making, while keeping the XAT marking scheme in mind when deciding which questions to attempt. After registering, shift attention to college applications and preparation. Verify every date and requirement on the official XAT website and on each institute's admission page.
