On June 27th, Asia-Pacific Institute of Management, a premier PGDM college in New Delhi, NCR, had invited Mr. Ashok Swarup, GM – HR at NTPC Ltd., Mr. Deepak Choudhary, CEO – Audi, New Delhi West, and 3 highly passionate and experienced HR professionals at its campus to share their industry experience with the batch 2018-20 students.
The day began with Mr. Ashok Swarup. And he spoke in great length about the origin of NTPC back in 1975, its people-centric work culture, and about the challenges the PSU is facing with the new generation of employees. In his unique style, he also shared gems of wisdom on how one can command success in the corporate arena. Time and again in his address to the students, he emphasized on the value that communication and networking can create for an individual. He also encouraged the students to embrace technology, and keep learning and getting certified in skills that can help them grow in their careers.
A panel consisting eminent HR professionals like Ms. Monika Marwah, Talent Acquisition Lead, NCR Corporation, Ms. Sakshi Jain, and Mrs. Sonali Shankar, an experienced HR and Director at TriEdge Solutions, was invited to come and speak with the batch 2018-20 students. The panel started with a thought-provoking question as to what is human resource management, and what it is not. And this led the panel as well as the students present in the auditorium to go back to the time when HRM was originated, its earlier functions, and how modern human resource managers wear different hats depending on the needs of the their organisations. The session was interactive and students too took advantage of the opportunity and asked the panelists about the best routes to learn the skills that make a successful human resource manager.
Mr. Deepak Choudhary, CEO – Audi, New Delhi West, took the students and faculty on a whole new journey … which began with his days at Asia-Pacific Institute of Management and struggle to pay for his gym fee and diet. Full of wit and humor, Mr. Chaudhary spoke about how, by a chance of luck, he got his first job in the auto industry, and how from then on, he never looked back. Along the way, he kept the audience intrigued by sharing his salary packages at different points of his career, and how anyone can make it by following a few simple rules; and the rules were, keep trying and never give up; have a dream, have a plan, and execute it no matter what comes up.
All three sessions were informative and engaging and successfully helped our students realize their potential and ways ahead to make the most of their PGDM programmes.
