Dr. Shovana Narayan’s Performance (16 th Mar, 2020)
Padmashri Kathak Guru, Dr. Shovana Narayan’s performance enthralled the students, staff and faculty members at Asia-Pacific Institute of Management (AIM) campus, New Delhi, on 16 March, 2020 (SPIC MACAY event).
She has been awarded the prestigious Padmashri Award in 1992 and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for 1999-2000 in 2001. Recipient of over 30 national and international awards, Ms. Narayan is deeply entrenched in Hindi and Sanskrit literature and Hindu philosophy. She is also a visiting lecturer in several universities across India and abroad and has conducted numerous lecture demonstrations and motivational workshops all over country and beyond. Charting new paths, Ms. Narayan is perhaps the only example of a person who has relentlessly pursued two parallel and exacting professional careers – as a civil servant (IAS, 1976 batch) and a Kathak dancer and guru, achieving distinction and fame in both.
Ms. Narayan’s performance at Asia-Pacific left the audience spellbound in appreciation. Through her lec-dem (lecture-demonstration) style, she made the session very interactive which led to the students posing a number of questions. This event was organized by Dr. Anindita Sharma.
