XAT 2027 Cut-Off: What Is a Good Score for PGDM Admission?
Posted on 12 Oct 2026

Introduction
Every XAT aspirant who has spent an evening on a data interpretation set eventually asks the same question: how many marks is enough? The XAT 2027 cutoff will not be known until XLRI releases it after the 3 January 2027 exam, but earlier years already show how it behaves. Those numbers matter beyond XLRI as well, because many institutes accept XAT scores, including the PGDM programmes at Asia-Pacific Institute of Management (AIM), New Delhi.
This guide explains how the XAT cutoff 2027 is likely to work, what a good XAT score looks like in marks and percentile, why sectional bars reward numerical practice, and how a score turns into a PGDM seat.

What Is the XAT 2027 Cutoff, and When Will It Be Announced?
The XAT 2027 cutoff is the minimum overall and sectional percentile that XLRI and other institutes use to call candidates for later rounds. It is not announced in advance. XLRI published its 2026 figures on 30 January 2026, after scorecards were released, and results for the 3 January 2027 exam are expected about three weeks after the test.
Because XAT reports percentiles, the cutoff moves with the field rather than staying fixed at a particular mark. Paper difficulty, the number of test-takers, seat intake and earlier cutoffs all play a part. Each institute also sets its own bar, and XLRI's figures are the ones most often quoted. Any XAT cutoff 2027 number you see before January is therefore a projection built on past trends, not an official figure.
The practical consequence is simple. Plan around ranges rather than a single magic number, and keep the registration deadline of 6 December 2026 in view.
XLRI's overall XAT cutoffs for engineering and technology candidates stayed between 87 and 96 percentile from 2024 to 2026, and they eased in 2026. For Business Management, male candidates needed 94 in 2026 after 96 in the two earlier years, while female candidates needed 88 after 91.

Non-engineering candidates faced slightly different HRM bars in 2026 (90 for men and 84 for women), so check the category that applies to you. A lower cutoff does not mean an easier path. Percentile is relative, so a dip often reflects how the cohort performed in that year's paper. What stays constant is the need to clear the overall bar and each section.
Treat these figures as context for the XAT cutoff 2027. XLRI sets fresh numbers every year and publishes them on xatonline.in.
What Is a Good XAT Score for PGDM? Marks, Percentile and Targets
A good XAT score depends on your target colleges, because no single threshold applies. XAT percentile is the share of candidates you outscored. XLRI has asked for roughly 87 to 96 depending on programme and category, while prep-portal estimates for many other XAT-accepting institutes fall between the mid-70s and low 90s. Set a percentile band first, then convert it into marks.

95
34 to 37.5
90
29 to 32
85
24 to 27
Two cautions apply. These conversions come from third-party analyses of past results, not an official table, and the mapping shifts each year: a 95 percentile needed about 34 marks in 2022 but about 37.5 in 2023. Raw scores also look low because every wrong answer costs 0.25 marks, so a score in the thirties is a strong result.
For XAT score for PGDM planning, use the table as a guide rather than a promise. If your mocks hover near the lower end of a range, you know which colleges to treat as reach options and which as realistic ones.
Why Sectional Cutoffs Make Numerical Caselet Practice Count
XLRI applies a cutoff to each section as well as the total, so a strong overall score can still fall short if one section lags. In 2026, male Business Management candidates needed at least the 85th percentile in Quantitative Aptitude and Data Interpretation, and at least 82 in both Verbal and Logical Ability and Decision Making.
Quantitative Aptitude and Data Interpretation carries 28 of the 75 Part 1 questions, the largest share, and numerical caselets often sit inside it. A caselet is a data set with several linked questions, so one heavy calculation can cost minutes across all of them. Practise by scanning each set first and deciding whether its calculation load is worth the time.
The marking scheme shapes that decision. A guess pays off in expectation only when your chance of being right exceeds 20 per cent. XLRI also allows eight skipped questions without penalty, with 0.1 marks deducted for each skip after that. Log every mock caselet error as a misread table, a slow calculation or a bad guess, then fix the most common category first.
Outside XLRI, each institute decides how much weight XAT percentile carries. Most use it to shortlist candidates for a group discussion and personal interview, then combine it with academic record and interview performance. Expectations vary widely, so a good XAT score for one college may fall short for another.
Registering for XAT does not apply you to any college, so every institute on your list needs its own application, deadline and selection rounds. Build a tracker with three groups: reach, realistic and safe. Percentile estimates published by coaching portals can differ from one another, so confirm current requirements on each institute's own admission page before relying on them.
From XAT Score to PGDM Admission at AIM
At AIM, XAT is one of several accepted entrance scores for PGDM. Applicants need a bachelor's degree with at least 50% marks, a valid score in CAT, XAT, CMAT, MAT, GMAT or ATMA, and then a group discussion and personal interview. The official admission page does not state a minimum XAT percentile.
Applications for the PGDM 2027–29 batch are open. AIM runs AICTE-approved PGDM programmes in Marketing, General, Banking & Financial Services and Big Data Analytics. Aspirants who enjoy numerical caselets may want to read the Banking & Financial Services and Big Data Analytics descriptions closely, since both centre on finance and data-driven decision-making.
AIM's scholarship page lists merit-based awards that consider competitive CAT, XAT or CMAT scores alongside academic consistency and leadership potential. Amounts are not disclosed, and details can change by batch, so ask the admissions team what applies to you at admissions@asiapacific.edu or 1800113334.
The XAT 2027 cutoff will only be known after the January exam, but the pattern is clear enough to plan with. XLRI's bars have sat between the high 80s and mid-90s, sectional cutoffs matter as much as the total, and a good XAT score is defined by the colleges you apply to rather than by one number. Set a percentile target, rehearse numerical caselets under timed conditions, and shortlist programmes whose admission pages you have verified. If AIM's PGDM fits your goals, the admissions team can explain how your score fits the process.

These FAQs cover how the XAT 2027 cutoff works, what counts as a good XAT score and how your XAT percentile connects to PGDM shortlisting.
01.
When will the XAT 2027 cutoff be released?
Results are expected about three weeks after the 3 January 2027 exam. Last year, XLRI published its cutoffs on 30 January 2026, after scorecards were available. Check xatonline.in for the official announcement.
02.
What is a good XAT score for PGDM admission?
It depends on your target colleges. XLRI has asked for roughly 87 to 96 percentile depending on programme and category, while prep-portal estimates for many other institutes fall between the mid-70s and low 90s. Check each college’s current requirements.
03.
What XAT percentile is needed for XLRI?
In 2026, XLRI’s Business Management cutoff was 94 percentile for male and 88 for female candidates. HRM cutoffs ranged from 84 to 92 depending on gender and stream. Each section also had its own bar.
04.
How many marks give a 90 XAT percentile?
Prep-portal analyses of 2021 to 2024 results place a 90 percentile at roughly 29 to 32 marks out of 75. The conversion changes every year, so treat it as an estimate rather than an official figure.
05.
Does XAT have sectional cutoffs?
Yes, for XLRI. Its 2026 Business Management cutoff for male candidates required at least the 85th percentile in Quantitative Aptitude and Data Interpretation, and 82 in each of the other two scored sections. Other institutes set their own rules.
06.
Does General Knowledge count in the XAT percentile?
No. XLRI states that the General Knowledge part has no negative marking and does not contribute to the overall percentile or cutoff. It is considered in selection only for XLRI programmes, so other colleges apply their own criteria
07.
Can I use my XAT score for PGDM admission at AIM?
Yes. AIM accepts XAT alongside CAT, CMAT, MAT, GMAT and ATMA, and expects a bachelor’s degree with at least 50% marks. Shortlisted candidates attend a group discussion and personal interview. Confirm current details on the admission page.
08.
Does a high XAT percentile guarantee admission?
No. A strong score helps with shortlisting, but institutes also weigh academic records, group discussion and personal interview performance. Each college runs its own process, so treat the score as one part of the application.
