4-Day Orientation-cum-Industry Connect Programme Asia Pacific Institute of Management, New Delhi

The Orientation programme for all newly admitted PGDM students was organized from 2nd August 2021 to 5th August 2021. The students were formally welcomed and introduced to the culture of the Asia Pacific Institute of Management, New Delhi. 

The inaugural ceremony began with the lamp lighting by Honourable Chairman, Shri A. K. Shrivastava. The dignitaries present on the occasion were Prof. M. P. Singh, (Director Asia Pacific Institute of Management, New Delhi) and Prof. Dinesh Kumar Likhi (Strategic Advisor, Jindal Stainless Steel). After inaugural ceremony, Prof. Dinesh Kumar Likhi delivered a speech on career opportunities in the Corporate World. He motivated students to set higher goals and formulate stepwise strategies to pursue these goals. He also highlighted seven Guru Mantras to be successful in corporate world. In the next session, Mr. Rakesh Verma, a certified Project Management Professional from PMI Hudson, demonstrated a presentation on project management concepts citing the example of past and current projects handled by Adventz Group. He also stressed on corporate competencies like corporate design, organizational risks, and safety culture. The last session of the day was conducted by Mr. Gautam Pande, Vice President – Strategic Initiatives, Grey Orange. He emphasised on the opportunities and challenges of the entrepreneurship and the role of technology in start-ups. He also presented comparative analysis of four start-ups including Jabong, Ibibo, LolChef and Grey Orange. The sessions of first day were closed by the concluding remarks by Prof. M. P. Singh, Director, Asia Pacific Institute of Management.

The second day of the programme started with the session of Prof. Anand Kumar Shrivastava, Faculty, Asia Pacific Institute of Management. He highlighted the role and importance of Analytics in business environment. The next session of the day was taken by Prof. Dinesh Kumar Likhi, focussing on the Fundamental Principles of Management. The session featured the importance of 5Ps and 4Cs. Moving ahead, Mr. Sunil Bhatia, Ex-Director, Finance of Engineers India Limited, covered the financial importance in business decision making in his session. In the afternoon session, Prof. Rakesh Sheth, Founding Director of International Consulting Professional Institute, India, talked about 12 ethical principles for Business Executives. He also stressed that it is not only the hard work but also an individuals’ attitude which opens the pathways to success. In the last session of the second day Prof. Vivek Kumar, Management Consultant highlighted the role of quantitative techniques and analytics for business decision making. The session ended with his expert views on how statistical software packages facilitate the information synthesis and decision making.

Third day of the programme started with the detailed discussion by Prof. Dhruv Sood, Partner Indo Realistic Management Consultance LLP, on Sales and Distribution management in the business world. The emphasis in the session was placed on the challenges in managing and coordinating the global organization logistics and dispersed activities to minimize the costs and maximize value for customers. Later, Prof. M. P. Singh, Director, Asia Pacific Institute of Management, delivered a presentation on Basics and Fundamentals of Marketing. The afternoon session began with the lecture on Decision Making on Managerial Economics. Dr. Qayoom Khachoo, PhD, IIT Indore, discussed basic principles of managerial economics which aid in decision making. The final session of the day was carried out by Prof. Sanjay Kumar, Ex-General Manager, Steel Authority of India Limited. He enlightened the students on the basics of strategic management and stressed on how sound strategies deliver unique advantage to a corporate/company over its rival and help it to move ahead in the highly competitive business environment.

The final day of the programme started with lecture on Information Technology and System for Effective Managerial Decision Making. Prof. Vipulesh Shardeo, PhD, IIT Delhi conducted the live experiment to showcase the importance role of effective information for decision making. He also provided basic insights on the emerging technologies such as Blockchain, Artificial Intelligence and Augmented Analytics. The session was followed by a presentation on Professional World of Digital Marketing and Integrated Marketing Communications by Prof. Satinder S. Juneja, Head Corporate Marketing, L&T Infotech. He highlighted the use of emerging technologies for business marketing. He also pointed out the emergence of technologies along with marketing style within the corporate world which shows the utilization of technologies to market the business products or services.  Followed by this session, Prof. Sanjeev Sharma, Ex-Director (Finance), Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited, demonstrated basic concepts of Accounting and Balance Sheet Analysis. He gave live demonstration on Profit & Loss statement and Balance Sheet preparation of organization.  Later, Ms. Nilanjana Basu Kaul, Language Service Facilitator for APEDA and many more, highlighted the role and scope of Foreign Language for Global Managers which ended the session of the day.

The programme closed with the vote of thanks by Prof. M. P. Singh to all distinguished guests, students, faculty members, and no-teaching staff members. Prof. M. P. Singh emphasized that the Orientation programme is the best platform for the new students to get an overview of what all an institute has to offer. Dr. Singh highlighted the importance of the programme in providing opportunity to the new students to interact with the top leaders of various organizations, industry experts as well as faculty members.
